Words of Encouragement

While some seasons start out with a storm, some begin with a deep breath and a little extra patience. Mama said there’ll be days like this, there’ll be days like this my mama said, but the energy around Meadows is as strong as ever. The mountain crew is ready, the community is fired up, and we’re all holding onto that spirit that knows our winter dreams will in-time, come true.

In the meantime, do your Snow Dances, shout to the sky, and dream on, dream on, dream until your dream come true.

And know the snow is coming, and when it does, we’ll be more than ready.

Toyota Stoke Winners

“We are excited to recognize Johnny Parker (Facilities Assistant Manager) for his positive outlook, hard work and drive to learn. As one of the first recipients when we started this program several years ago, Johnny is the first team member to be awarded a second time.”

-Mel Toney

Congrats Johnny, on the promotion too!

“We are so excited to recognize Rob Vogel (HR Generalist and Safety Specialist) for his efforts in improving our company-wide comprehensive workers’ compensation safety program, leading the Safety Committees, ensuring compliance, promoting a culture of safety, and developing the “Get Shreddy” program. Rob’s enthusiasm, ambition, positive attitude, and determination to accomplish many company-wide challenges this season were the primary factors for his “Stoke” recognition.”

December Events

Aside from the Opening Day we are all eagerly waiting for, there are a variety of events and happenings coming to your mountain home this December!

Safety Corner

As we anxiously wait for freezing levels to drop just a bit more, we have two great opportunities!

The first, of course, is to Get Shreddy(er)!

If you haven’t gotten into the pre-conditioning exercises yet, we’ve still got a week or so to get after it before opening – you’ll thank yourself later!

Here’s the link, remember Get Shreddy is a voluntary program: Learning plan

The second is to brush-up on our ice-travel skills. This flyer has more tips than usual and is worth a review:

Friendly Reminder

A friendly reminder to please pick up after your pets while on the mountain. Most of our team does a great job, but we’re still seeing occasional pet waste around the resort—and since we’re closed to the public, it’s likely from employee dogs. We provide biodegradable bags and waste bins during winter and summer, and during shoulder seasons we rely on everyone to be responsible and prepared. It’s part of our Dog-to-Work program requirements, supports a healthy environment, and is simply common courtesy. Please help keep Meadows clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.

Under Mt. Hood Meadows’ Rules of Use, The Ski Area may remove and trespass persons from the permit area for the following acts/behaviors:

  • Unleashed dogs,
  • failing to pick up and appropriately dispose of dog feces,
  • or dogs in inappropriate locations.

Slopeside Sagacity

Around the mountain, you hear some pretty great things; thoughtful, funny, honest, and everything in between. I asked your coworkers, “If you could say anything to the whole team (completely anonymously), what would it be?”

Here’s another round of weekly wisdom shared by the crew!

“Pet a dog everyday and all your troubles go away”

“I need to give myself more credit for how hard I’m trying.”

“Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet.”

“Earth, you don’t have to be crazy to live here, but it helps.”

“The answer always lies within.”

“The point of power is in the present moment.”

“We’re all friends on a powder day.”

“Life is like skiing. Just like skiing, the goal is not to get to the bottom of the hill. It’s to have a bunch of good runs before the sun sets.”
