Hood To Coast Volunteers Needed

Team,

Meadows has a Hood to Coast running team again this year benefitting cancer research for Providence Cancer Institute.  While the runners for the Team have been filled, we are still looking for volunteers to assist with the race logistics.  The shifts are about 4 hours and you have options where and what you would like to do.

Race volunteers are located at the physical exchange point. They report to the Exchange Leader, and check in at the exchange point. Duties include:

  • Directing van parking
  • Keeping spectators away from the physical Exchange Zone.
  • Calling in-coming participant team numbers
  • Patrol exchange zone/parking
  • Patrol Sleeping Fields (if applicable)

If you are interested in representing us and supporting this great cause, please send me an email and I can get you signed up.   Additional information can be found by clicking the button below.

Sincerely,

Greg Pack (he/him)

Trail Fest Recap

“The 50K, 14K and 8K runners battled some warm temps, major mountain grinding and a bit of smoky skies to reach the finish line, but they did it!

The 28K was just such a spectacular showing of grit, passion and joy on the trails. From the lead runners to the final finisher, it was an honor for us to host every single runner and volunteer. Witnessing the fortitude and gratitude the trail running community displays at tough events like this are why we do this. Thank you all for affirming we have the best job in the world.

Thank you to our incredible sponsors for their generosity and support, and to all the volunteers that are the heartbeat of our great sport. Our heartfelt thanks particularly goes out to @mthoodmeadows for being such kind and responsible hosts!”

Mt. Hood Meadows team members Will Reuland and Derek Gibbs entered the 8k segment. Here is what Will had to say:

“It was awesome! The trail selection was super fun, beautiful views with a lot of beargrass popping up. Great crowd of people with good vibes at the finish line. Felt good drinking my beer and eating a burrito just lounging on the deck in the sun. Will definitely run that section of trail again on my own time but have more I want to explore.”

Upcoming Summer Event - Mt. Hood Trail Games

Welcome to the Mt. Hood Trail Games - September 7th

Mountain Relay: Teams of 3 runners. Each teammate takes turns running every loop, one teammate at a time, until all team members complete all 3 loops to finish. Each teammate’s three loops totals 15.5 miles (25K), for an overall Mountain Relay race distance of 46.5 miles (75K)! The course loops can be run in any order and teammates can run in any order, as long as only one teammate is out running at any given time during the race.

Sprint Relay: Teams of 3 runners. Each teammate chooses to run one of the 3 loops, with each teammate running a different loop, one teammate at a time. To finish, teammate 1 runs the first loop, teammate 2 runs the second loop, teammate 3 runs the third loop to finish. Total Sprint Relay race distance is 15.5 miles (25K). The course loops can be run in any order.

Wolfpack Race: Teams of 3 runners. All teammates start, run and finish all three loops together at the same time to finish— your pack is as fast as your slowest wolf! Total race distance of the three loop course is 15.5 miles (25K). The course loops can be run together in any order.

Lone Wolf 25K: Traditional individual 25K trail race— a single runner completes all three loops to finish the 15.5 mile (25K) distance. The course loops can be run in any order.

Toyota Stoke Award Winners

Congratulations to this months Toyota Stoke Award Winners!

“Zach joined the MHM team just a few years ago as our electrician.  In that time, he has had a tremendous impact on the success of many of our recent improvements and upgrades.  From new switch gear and the new MHX to night light upgrades.  Last winter we would have really struggled without Zach troubleshooting and finding solutions for powering the resort when we were running off the grid and down one generator.  Most recently he’s been hard at work on upgrades to our new employee housing.  Zach has great attention to detail, incredible work ethic, is a tenacious problem solver and an all-round nice human.  He is always willing to go the extra mile when we are facing a challenge he can help with.

Zach, you are a tremendous asset and a joy to work with.  Thank you for all that you do!”

“Elvis is an exemplary team member.  He has an exceptional work ethic and always has a positive attitude.  He likely has the strongest attendance at Cooper Spur.  Elvis was hired as a line cook for Cooper, after working several seasons with the Meadows culinary team.

He’s quickly become our main breakfast & lunch cook, and has taken on learning how to serve, run our ski area food & beverage, can help with maintenance tasks, and is a part time caretaker for us.  He jumps in wherever he’s needed.  He learned to serve when our breakfast server couldn’t make it on a few shifts.  He just jumped in and served the guest tables and cooked for them at the same time.  Elvis is a true team player. He cares about our team, and he cares about Cooper Spur.  We can always count on him to “find a way”, and he does so with an outstanding attitude and demeanor.  He’s helped shovel our resort for hours this winter, again while cooking on the crooked tree kitchen line. He’s a true asset to our company.  I really can’t truly express how much I/we appreciate him.  He makes working at Cooper more enjoyable for me and our entire team. When he’s on the schedule I know it will be a good day.

Thanks for all you do at Cooper Elvis.  We’re lucky to have a team member like you with us!”

Sustainability Spotlight - Heidi Logosz

Sustainability Manager, Heidi Logosz goes to Washington D.C. with the Citizens' Climate Lobby

Here is what Heidi had to share about her experience:

“My experience was extraordinary! I participated in citizen engagement in democracy at a higher level than ever before.  I have previously represented MHM/CSMR in local lobbying efforts in Oregon but being in our Nation’s Capital was next level exciting.  I believe I made a positive impression in the brief time I spoke, representing our healthy climate interests”

Positive Guest Reviews

Your hard work is getting noticed! Heres what guests have said about visiting Mt. Hood Meadows!

We’ve kicked off the season strong with 2,628 guest visits so far, compared to 2,202 at this time last year! Starting next week, we’ll be extending our Friday and Saturday hours, staying open until 7 PM. This aligns perfectly with our Friday Night Pizza and Movie Nights on the deck, starting with “Grease” on August 2nd.

"An awesome July outing... Take the one operating chairlift to the top, then hike 3 miles back traversing wildflower meadows, forests, and mountain streams. Hike poles are helpful for some tricky stream crossings. Tickets and maps at the gift shop."
"Great place to hiking. Have an excellent and wide vision to release your moods. Will go back again and again."
"It was my first time ever going to The Meadows but that place is beautiful even though I didn't had time to explore more I'm definitely going back"
"The guided hike was awesome. Kathi was our guide and she was friendly and accommodating to whatever we wanted to do..."this is your hike.." We chose the Timberline Trail, aka the wildflower hike, and the hike to Umbrella Falls. Kathi adjusted to our pace and was enthusiastic about helping identifying the flowers and other vegetation. The chair ride was super fun too. I recommend for anyone that has never been hiking or ridden the chair lift at Meadows in the summer."
