Mt. Hood Meadows / Cooper Spur Team Check-in Survey

In my opinion I think butter cup bottom shack should wipe or spray the handles for the carpet atleast every so often. Every single person loading butter cup grabs a hold of the handles before loading since you need to be against the gate.

Everyone touches the same metal and it doesn't get cleaned.

If we could get 4 or 5 more feet of snow, a bigger pro-park with a giant challenge rail (I'm talking Tom Wallisch 15 rails in a row, giant), and more ride breaks -- then morale in the workplace would greatly improve. I would also like employee only blue bird pow days...

In all seriousness, I love this job and this place. My only suggestion would be an improvement to the employee communication channels -- we receive a lot of calls in comms from employees who need to talk to their supervisors/ have questions that their supervisors could answer. It would save us a bit of time here in Comms

Management Response

Thanks for this suggestion. If you don't mind reaching out to Lisa, Ashley or I if you are seeing specific patterns or departments that are consistently having the same questions that would be helpful to know and follow up on.

This team survey was sent on 12/20/2020 at 4:19pm. The cut off day for this survey, which is the very first survey of the 2020/21 season, and first in-season survey during this COVID19 global pandemic, was set to close on 12/25/2020, on Christmas Day, at 10pm. Whoever discussed and made the final decision to have the survey close on 12/25/2020 was not thoughtful or considerate for employees working during the holiday week or who had the holiday week or day off. The cut off time for this survey should have been the 27th to allow for a minimum of 1 week/7 days for employees to respond to the first in-season survey. I am very disappointed in the complete disregard of employee’s schedules by management.
I've notice management is very considerate when it comes to guest needs. Can there please be just as much or more consideration of employee’s needs? Employees are directly providing the guest experience during the season, therefore are directly tied to the revenue stream. The employees who are working this season are also working at the resort during a global pandemic. Going forward, please be more considerate of employee’s schedules and put more forethought in what would be best for employees in regards to survey response time and overall time management. Thank you for taking the time to read my survey response and considering this suggestion.

Management Response

I'm sorry you felt the timing of the survey disregarded team members schedules that certainly was not the intent. Usually we launch it on Friday and close it Tuesday evening. So we did leave it open longer this last time than normal but I will make sure the survey does not close on a holiday again in the future. Thank you for the feedback.

I am glad we got the team check in going. While I think overall MHM is doing a good job with all the changes, I have missed the team checkin with my supervisor. This season is a big challenge for all of us. More than ever we need to feel like a MHM family! Let’s remember to take care of each other!

Management Response

I could not agree more, things are definitely different this season but taking care of each other is more important than ever.

Just getting on boarded and such has been frustrating and confusing? Need more interaction with a human who can answer my questions? So much information from online courses and such, yet feel like I don’t even know what to do next? Have left voicemail for Kelsey hoping to get call back soon?

I think we should have some signs at unload stations that are very visible about masking up getting off lift and signs saying anytime you are not on a run or not on chair to mask up and pulled over the nose that’s a huge thing ! And as well as make it clear not holes or open nose mask aloud .

LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing my colleagues after the summer/fall. Staff is safety conscious and happy to be on the hill.

Management Response

I love it too! Hosting our Town Halls and then seeing everyone back at the resort is an exciting time of year. The commitment team members have made to washing hands, wearing masks and distancing has been key to our community health. - Matt Troskey, VP People

The Patagonia Gortex pants are great for work... but what we are provided are old. I’m about to get my third pair for the season due to catastrophic failures from age and use.

Management Response

To patroller blowing out their pants: I’m glad there has been a replacement in your size each time it was needed. Try the thicker and newer H2No Patagonia pants for patrol – you might not prefer this style but they are newer and should last longer for you. With frequent cleaning with Niqwax they should stay fairly waterproof. Uniform services has drop off available for after your shift. And our clinic duty patroller should be picking up clean laundry daily to get yours back to you re-waterproofed. We will likely be getting some new items for next season.

Can we add a morning bus from HR that arrives before the morning meeting at 8:45? Currently the only option is to arrive at 7 and that timing isn’t conducive to trying to follow covid guidelines of minimizing indoor time

I think Mt Hood Meadows should be very proud of what it has accomplished this year and the way this emergency has been handled at all levels of the company. There will always be things that can be improved and that is the challenge we have to face.
This year has been special, we had snow earlier than other seasons and storms that brought us a lot of snow. And here is a point I want to reach and where we have a commitment that has not been fulfilled. I remember a video posted on the website that show employees, supervisors, managers and directors singing and shoveling snow. I even remember reading an email where a metaphor was made about "Everybody shovel". Well, the storms came, we have lot of snow but……. So far, I've only seen Facility Maintenance and Janitorial staff shoveling snow around the Lodge, stairs, and building access.

Where is the "Everybody Shovel" pledge?

Management Response

Thank you for your feedback. I have seen the Learning Center and Rental teams out shoveling as well but we will work to get more help for shoveling around the lodge so to much burden does not fall on just a few.
