Mt. Hood Meadows / Cooper Spur Team Check-in Survey

Team Member Comment

I think the survey is a great outlet for feedback, but I would challenge those who use it to “vent” to really think about how they are feeling and what the most constructive solution for thier issues really is. Coming to the table with solutions vs. problems can make all the difference.

Matt Troskey replied to a comment on last weeks survey saying “positivity and open-mindedness is the best way to see improvements” and I 100% back that. Work with your peers and be the change you want to see!

Thanks everyone for all the hard work over the always stressful Christmas break, let’s make the rest of the season count by working together!

Management Response

Thank you very much for this comment and thought process! There are always problems that need to be dealt with, those who come with proposed solutions to the problems they are seeing help make things better for all of us.

I really enjoyed the quote below that Troskey recently shared at a meeting.

-Jeremy Riss

"Your circumstances are not what is preventing you from succeeding. Your circumstances are the reality in which you must succeed."

Parking crew is the absolute best, they saved my butt twice over break by helping with flat tires on two different cars. They are an amazing resource and were more than happy to help me get off the hill. Can't say enough good tthings. Especially the evening crew over break was stellar. Don't listen to the haters!

Management Response

Thank you so much for giving a shout out to the parking team. They do a very difficult job and have made huge improvements this season!

Does anyone care about Nordic at all?

Its awesome that we have free coffee in the employee break area but what about something for those of us that dont drink coffee? At one point we had some hot chocolate packets which were nice but short lived. A small tea selection and or hot cocoa would go a long way for the non coffee drinking team members!

Last week end was the first weekend for SnoBlasters. Saturday went off pretty smooth, it was busy as usual for the first weekend with a little confusion. Sunday however was considerably busier, if I remember correctly we had an additional 50 or 60 kids over Saturday. I want to say that Andy James is doing a bang up job taking over the programs. I know this can be a huge undertaking! The only issue I had was that we had some kids that came in very late. We were into our table one lesson by about 1 hr and 15 minutes. So the kids were deep into their first lesson of the day. When these kids came in that late it really threw a wrench into the lesson with the other kids. Thanks to Angela, who was roving and helping us on table one that day. I had her take my 7 kids that we were working with so I could focus my attention on the three late comers to try to get them up to speed. I think to better handle a situation like this would be to put the late comers in a lesson with another instructor. That way the kids that are already ahead won't have to lag behind waiting on the kids that came in late. I am not sure what happened on sunday as to why they were so late. I just think that something needs to be done. I don't think it would be a big deal if the kids were in table three or four. But one you're working with first timers and we have the kids ready to go on the carpet to make their first glides and possible turns, its a bummer to have to take in three or four stragglers and to have to make the whole group wait for them to get up to speed. That didn't happen because I had Angela, it would have been a different story had it not been for her help! I know we are doing the best we can to accommodate the guests and to make them happy, I think a situation like this needs to be addressed.

Andy is doing a great job and change is difficult! Much appreciate his efforts.
Yes, late arrivals on Table #1 would ideally be part of a new group. You're right, if they are at Table #3 or #4 it's not as much of an issue. I'm glad Angela was there and that was the right thing for her to do - and that is the whole purpose of the Instructor Rovers - to come to the rescue when a lesson needs extra help. -Tyler Barnes, Learning Center Operations Manager

Despite the restrictions of the shop, working there over the holiday period was unbelievable. The environment there is nothing but positive energy and a great attitude. There are a lot of folks in there working their butts off to make the customer have the best experience they can. Shout out Yoko, cat like reflexes!

Management Response

It has been so awesome to watch both the working environment and the guest experience in the rental center improve over the past few seasons. The rental team is doing an amazing job in my opinion.
