Mt. Hood Meadows / Cooper Spur Team Check-in Survey

TL,DR: Can we get dedicated employee-only buses/shuttles OR swap shuttles for the buses that have larger capacity?

So far I am thoroughly enjoying my employment with Meadows! Shout-out to the awesome Lift-Ops managers and supervisors!

HOWEVER. I am a bit frustrated with the bus scheduling changes (like many others). I've been using the 3rd & state as my go -to stop (as it is the closest stop to where I live, an apartment found through the T4T program) and now it is suddenly being shifted to pick-up only which was not announced except through the last-minute newsletter recently sent out. Not only that but having to board the shuttles which appear to have fewer seats than the buses coupled with the fact that they now accommodate guests means that rides to / from the mountain are far more cramped. Several times now I have been unable to board the shuttle entirely and had to wait an extra hour to get home and many times have had to deal with guests who refused to move gear out of seats to let other people sit or simply get their bags out of the aisle to make room for more standing passengers. And considering the fact that it is flu season, it only aids to facilitate the spread of sickness throughout the departments that use the service.
Two options? Could we switch the shuttles out for buses? OR. Can we have a dedicated employees only bus/shuttle?

When I am skiing with my kids during a follow the leader down the slope near Eric’s corner or down shooting star ridge. We have experienced what I would call fly bys by the MRT kids I feel that they are danger close and have yelled at them for buzzing our class. I don’t know if it’s intentionally done or not. Also while free skiing today on star the MRT kids have come into the lift lines at relatively high speeds, much faster than I would consider safe for approaching the lift lines. Today I advised our lift hosts of the situation at Star and they went down with patrol to check the situation at the star lift line. Perhaps management can sent a message to the MRT coaching staff about these issues as I feel it’s endangering our kids especially now that the trails are somewhat limited in with with the low snow pack.

Management Response

With limited training terrain right now due to low snow coverage we have not been able to allow race teams to train on Stadium. This has placed race teams on other more congested areas of the hill. I agree that all mountain users need to adhere to The Responsibility Code and The Meadows Code of Conduct. It's easy for more skilled skiers and riders to not realize they are scaring other guests and that skiing/riding close to others is very scary and dangerous. I will reach out to Chris Olson, Race and Events Manager, and Chris Kastner, Director of Resort Services, so they can reiterate on-hill behavior expectations to our race and competition guests. - Tyler Barnes, MLC Ops & Training Manager

I would be interested in seeing some metrics of how MLC/CLC is doing. Something other than Net Provider Score.
On a regular basis. Perhaps weekly and/or monthly
Such as:
Conversion Rate
Lesson product revenue per instructor
Qty lessons sold per number of skier visits
Number lessons - ski vs snowboard
Qty Adult vs Children lessons
% repeat lessons sold
% private vs group lessons sold

Management Response

I'll discuss with the management team what financial and performance information can be shared. Thanks for the suggestion. - Tyler Barnes, MLC Ops & Training Manager

Finding where to stand to be able to punch in and out for Dayforce is frustrating and wastes time. Love having the hot chocolate in the break room, but it would be nice to have even some cheap teabags in the break room for when you don’t want a big sugar hit. Hand sanitizer in the bathrooms for people who don’t want to use the hand dryers. A big shoutout for Dominica on the parking crew. She’s been doing a great job helping guests get to the correct destination from day one. She’s always smiling but isn’t afraid to speak up and herd the crowd!

Management Response

I agree that trying to punch in that way wastes time - let's fix that. You do have a couple options: use a wall-mounted clock, or tell your manager of the difficulty - this can sometimes be fixed by adjusting the geofence for your department. For the wellness funds that we budgeted this year, what do you suggest we eliminate to add tea to the breakroom, or to purchase pocket hand sanitizers we could distribute to our team? - Matt Troskey, VP People & Learning

I was involved in the second ever station teaching event yesterday. It worked far better than I expected it to. It seems to me that everyone just needs to stay observant and fluid...go where you’re needed. Now I see lots of advantages that weren’t obvious before being involved

Management Response

So glad you feel that way. Having done both traditional lesson formats and station teaching, each has their challenges and benefits. I'm hoping our guests get the most out of their experience and freedom to self-graduate. This system will improve and evolve over time and I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and how we can improve this. - Tyler Barnes, MLC Ops & Training Manager

Not a fan of the tri met buses for employees. Doesn't seem to fit as many employees so employees are standing and sitting on the floor. Also no place for skis and snowboards so they are either taking up a seat or in the aisle. Also sharing with the general public and having to stand because the bus is full after a 10hr shift is not cool. Keep the tri met buses for parking lot shuttles or for just the general public. Bring back the old school Employee bus on the regular!! Never seemed to have any issues like the ones i stated above. Thank you! I really appreciate the transportation crew and all their efforts in getting us up here and home safe every day. They do a great job!

I am really loving the new menu items this season and the new ordering process in Fresh Tracks! Thanks

Management Response

Thank you for the comments. Chef Matt, Aaron, Whitney and the entire Fresh tracks team has been working hard on that new process and the consistency of the food there.
