Mt. Hood Meadows / Cooper Spur Team Check-in Survey

Team Member Comment

Orientation day: I felt those who worked before should have had a seperate/shorter orientation (maybe only review changes or if they have a new position then sit entire new training). It was nice to be fully detailed for us newbies but I felt bad for those who sat in on this for many seasons. I am new so not sure if you guys always did this large orientation but that's my small two cents.
We haven't even started yet, feel weird doing a survey for a job we didnt start yet...

Management Response

You don't have to feel weird unless you want to. Our commitment to getting your feedback includes your training - it is how we get better. We combine everybody because we aim to refresh everyone's memory after a summer away, and try to put a bigger message into the company orientation so that no matter how long you've been here, you can grow in how you contribute to the team. We also like that returners and the new team get to meet each other and start working together right away. It is nice to show up on opening day and see more familiar faces. That said, if you have ideas on how to keep it all fresh for everyone, let your manager know. - Matt Troskey

I understand the reason why, but I am not ok with providing my personal information required for a background check, SSN and so on, through a digital web based service. This is not a secure service regardless of any web encoding and while I provided the information this time, I will not be doing so in the future.

Management Response

For what it's worth, we went through a thorough process to validate the integrity of our background screening company. As you likely know, we run criminal background checks on instructors to meet the standards of the Child Protection Act, for the safety and peace of mind of our guests who entrust their children with us. If you'd like to discuss this further, any of the MLC leadership team or myself would be glad to hear from you. Ultimately though, it is your choice and I respect your boundary. - Matt Troskey, ext 1312.

Working a new position this year I am encountering a lot of very valuable information that I believe would have been helpful to know (particularly in my last department). Having a little more background on Programs and Group Organizers has really helped shape my perspective of their experience as guests and Organizers. I think this information would be valuable to all members of leadership involved in the Program process, to be able to better relate/ communicate with the guests.
Ie: As a former GS Lead in Rentals I would have loved to see the GO Handbook to have an inside idea of how to address certain issues. Just think that the abundance of knowledge that is out there could be reiterated more, or Confluence could be more readily available to support staff, not just leadership.

Management Response

Thank you, I think that is excellent feedback. Would you be willing to put together a training to help team members learn more of the details about Programs and be better prepared to help our program guests? If so please shoot me an email and let's coordinate how to effectively get this info to the team that would benefit from it.

I felt uncomfortable having my picture taken when I punched in the clock with the new system. I feel that the company did not ask my permission to do this. I asked my other employer and they also said that was an invasion of privacy. Also we were told in our department to fill out our employment paperwork such as the W4 at home before orientation. I feel that we should have done this at orientation when we were on the clock getting paid. I’m constantly getting emails from my supervisor to complete Dayforce paperwork but feel this should have been addressed during orientation.

Management Response

Sorry if the photo was a surprise. To be clear, it is simply a photo, not facial recognition. This allows your manager to see that it was truly you who punched in; it helps to stop somebody fraudulently punching in for somebody else. It is actually a lighter standard than many employers use. We opted to not require a bio-metric (fingerprint) scan which is a more invasive way of curtailing "buddy punching." The photo is stored within Dayforce and only those with timesheet access (supervisor, payroll, administrators) can see it. We treat the photo as secure, confidential information, along with items such as your social security number, An alternative is to download the Dayforce app and use your phone to clock in/out (no picture taken). As to your hiring "paperwork" it is considered a one time, brief task that can be done before you start work or on your first day. Your supervisor likely sends reminders because we encounter several people who do not finish it, or show up without their documents for the I-9 and that delays being able to schedule them. - Matt Troskey

I feel afraid to ask questions sometimes. If I missed an email or information was put out there that I don’t recall or understand Especially. Confluence doesn’t work for everyone-many have different learning styles and need to be shown how to do something...not once, but maybe a few times. That should be ok and welcomed if our Goals are to have a learning environment that is welcoming and allows for growth.

Management Response

Please ask questions that is how we get better. I ask questions all the time to things I do not recall or understand completely. I would start by saying I want to understand this better can you help me? Or I need to be refreshed on this can you provide the information again. You should not feel afraid and if you feeling that your supervisor or manager is not responding the correct way let them know directly. If that does not work please come talk with me and I will help.

So far it has been wonderful working at Meadows. One suggestion I have (if ever possible) would be a way to get our employees access to a gym membership at a reduced fee, to encourage the active lifestyles we are pursuing here in a safe way. Some individuals might need a little warming up to prevent injury as we get into the winter season. Just a thought! #ThinkSnow

Management Response

I think that is a great suggestion and will look into it.
