My idea in one sentence:Better Eggs Please!
What problem does your idea solve?
The past few seasons we've offered Wilcox hard boiled eggs in plastic at quick serve locations, this season we are offering another brand. The eggs in plastic have a preservative added to them and taste like chemicals (especially the new ones). They also add to our plastic waste. In my mind, it seems silly to take an egg which has natural packaging out of that compostable packaging (it's shell) only to douse it in preservative and re-package it in plastic. That said, I do understand the convenience of the extended shelf life and lack or labor involved in selling the preserved, packaged eggs. I see bowls of hardboiled eggs on the shelf at lots of convenience and grocery stores. Would it be possible to make our own hardboiled eggs, reduce plastic waste, improve taste and save some money? As someone with food allergies, my options are pretty limited when it comes to getting food up here and hard boiled eggs are an easy grab for some quick protein. I've just been making my own because I can't deal with the chemical taste or the plastic waste. I know this is minor but it seems like an easy solution that could hit a few of our core values, especially for those of us that can't eat much of the prepared food in our quick serve locations.

Better quality protein, less plastic waste, less preservatives used/consumed, less money spent.
The new brand difference is because we changed distributors, and that’s what Sysco carries.
We really do not have a method to do hard boiled eggs and package for retail sale in volume to keep in stock in outlying locations… and to have a shelf life we require. Without that preservative, hard-boiled eggs tend to get discolored, which is why they have that preservative. Plus the labor involved to show all the hard boiled eggs cost prohibitive.
