Pride Month

June Is Pride Month; dedicated to the celebration of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer pride. It is not only an opportunity for celebrating pride this is an opportunity to bring awareness to LGBTQ+ rights and LGBTQ+ experiences in our organization, community, and the ski & snowboard industry.

How You Can Show Up as an Ally

Educate Yourself: on the history of Pride month, the design of the rainbow flag, and issues related to LGBTQ+ rights.

Use Inclusive Language: Take a moment to think about how you use gendered language throughout the day in the various interactions you have with folks in the workplace and in social settings. Keep your reflections in the forefront of your mind – staying mindful – as you interact with others. Write down how regular phrases you use could be transformed into inclusive phrases. For example, if you find yourself using you guys” regularly, identify inclusive words and statements to use instead such as you all.”

Respect & Use Correct Pronouns: Sharing your pronouns such as on your nametag, email signature, and when you first introduce yourself to a new team member, creates the space for others to share their pronouns if they choose to do so. It also helps them to avoid assumptions about what pronouns to use when they are referring to you.

Avoid referring to pronouns as “preferred” as this implies that there are multiple options for one to prefer over the other. Instead of saying: “My preferred pronouns are they/them/theirs, what do you prefer?” Say, “My pronouns are they/them/theirs; do you feel comfortable sharing your pronouns with me so I can refer to you correctly?”

Make a mistake and incorrectly use the wrong pronouns? Apologize, correct yourself, and move forward.

Enriching lives starts with a safe and respectful space for all at our Mountain Home. Everyone is part of our culture. Through education, advocacy, and allyship, you can influence and improve experiences for our LGBTQ+ team, guests, and community.

Boost Employee Morale: 3 Ways Managers Can Improve Staff Self Esteem

Employee well-being plays a significant role in the success of any organization. As managers, it is your responsibility to ensure that your staff’s mental health is in good shape because an employee with low self-esteem and confidence is often unproductive, leading to substandard work output. In this post, we will discuss what self-esteem is, its impact on mental health, and three practical ways managers can help improve employee self-esteem.

Simple Ways to Boost Employee Self-Esteem

Positive self-esteem can create more productive, enthusiastic employees, and managers can support self-esteem in their team by promoting positive reinforcement, giving their employees autonomy, and giving them plentiful opportunities for growth and development.

What is self-esteem?

Self-esteem refers to the level of confidence and self-worth that a person possesses. It is critical in developing mental health and shaping how we perceive and interact with ourselves and others. A strong sense of self-esteem can lead to positive mental health outcomes, such as higher happiness and resilience in difficult situations. Conversely, individuals with low self-esteem may be more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. It is essential to recognize self-esteem’s impact on our mental well-being and cultivate a positive self-image through self-care, positive self-talk, and seeking support from loved ones and mental health professionals.

Promote Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement is one of the most effective ways to boost employee self-esteem. As a manager, it is vital to frequently recognize and positively reinforce your employees’ good work. Doing so gives your staff the recognition they need to feel valued and appreciated, which can go a long way in boosting their self-esteem.

Allow for Autonomy

Another way managers can improve employee self-esteem is by giving employees the autonomy to make decisions about their work. When you delegate tasks to your employees and allow them to make decisions, it shows that you trust and have confidence in their abilities. This trust leads to a boost in their self-esteem, which can positively impact the quality of work produced.

Provide Opportunities for Growth & Development

Offering growth and development opportunities to your employees is an effective way to boost their self-confidence. Continuous learning can increase knowledge, skills, and expertise, leading to a boost in self-esteem. Managers can offer various opportunities for their employees, including training programs, access to mentorship, and encouraging them to participate in conferences and workshops.

In conclusion, self-esteem is critical to mental health and directly impacts employee productivity. Managers can significantly improve employee self-esteem by providing positive reinforcement, allowing for autonomy, and offering growth opportunities. The bottom line is that poor self-esteem can lead to adverse outcomes in the workplace, so managers need to prioritize their staff’s emotional well-being. Investing in your employees’ self-esteem and caring for their mental health can increase productivity, reduce staff turnover, and ultimately achieve your organizational goals.
